  • Fill up a washing up bowl or your bath with water and find items from around your house that float or sink (see if you can find 10 things for each). You could write a list or draw pictures of the things you find!

You could also see if you can estimate how many cupful’s of water it takes to fill up a bottle or other containers around your home.

  • Go on an ‘alphabet treasure hunt’ and look for things that begin with each letter (s for sink). You could take some photographs of your findings and send them to our reception email address.

  • Design and make your own pirate hat –

When I was one, I played the drum,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was two, I lost my shoe,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was three, I grazed my knee
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was four, I knocked on the door,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was five, I learned to dive,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was six, I picked up sticks,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was seven, I went to Devon,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was eight, I found a mate, (opened a gate)
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was nine, I drank some wine,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.

When I was ten, I started again,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
‘We’re going this way, that way,
    Forwards backwards,
    Over the Irish sea.
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me’.
